•Â Â   Curriculum development, evaluating course material and undergraduate teaching of Sensory Science as well as Nutrition for Food Scientists modules;
•Â Â   Supervising Masters and PhD candidates;
•Â Â   Sourcing and managing external research funding;
•Â Â   Establishing and maintaining an active and productive research programme in Sensory Science and Sensometrics, but also within the general focus of the Department and publication of such research in relevant peer-reviewed journals;
•Â Â   Managing a sensory research laboratory according to international requirements and delivering an independent sensory research service to industry;
•Â Â   Developing national and international research and industry partnerships and networks;
•Â Â   Involvement with administrative service delivery at departmental, faculty and university level;
•Â Â   Involvement with community interaction projects.

•Â Â   PhD in Food Science (or related field) with a strong component of specialisation in Sensory Science and Sensometrics (or in process of finalising a PhD in the aforementioned areas – graduating by March 2018 at the latest);
•Â Â   Ability and willingness, or proven experience, to participate in lecturing Sensory Science and Nutrition for Food Scientists (theory and practicals) at tertiary level, as well as the application thereof in new product development modules at tertiary level;
•Â Â   Ability to obtain external research funding;
•Â Â   Ability to conduct postgraduate student supervision;
•Â Â   Ability and willingness to manage a sensory science research laboratory with a focus on both applying and validating existing and new sensory science and sensometric methodologies;
•Â Â   Ability and willingness to conduct independent contract research for third party clients using sound experimental designs and accredited (ISO) sensory research methodologies.

•Â Â   Recognition within the field or discipline on a national and/or international level;
•Â Â   A keen interest in a research field that is a good fit with the departmental research profile;
•Â Â   Relevant experience in industry-related, applied  research;
•Â Â   Relevant computer proficiency;
•Â Â   Relevant proficiency in statistics;
•Â Â   Language proficiency for a multilingual University;
•Â Â   Proven leadership ability;
•Â Â   Proven competence to handle multiple tasks independently, under time pressure;
•Â Â   Proven competence to function well within a group, but also to work independently;
•Â Â   Sound interpersonal skills;
•Â Â   NRF rating or equivalent.
